IPC Classification Code

In 2003, the IPC conducted an assessment of the classification programmes in all Sports. This Classification Audit highlighted a number of issues that the Paralympic Movement faces, including the absence of a clear definition of classification and procedural inconsistencies from sport to sport with respect to classification. The IPC Governing Board decided that a strategy had to be developed on how the IPC may support the ongoing evaluation and further development of classification systems in all sports within the Paralympic Movement. It was anticipated that the development of an IPC Classification Code was the way forward.
