The IPC today
The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) is the global governing body of the Paralympic Movement. It is an international, non-profit organisation formed and run by around 170 National Paralympic Committees (NPCs), four impairment-specific international sports federations (International Organisations of Sport for the Disabled, or IOSDs), the sports and Regional Organisations.
The IPC was founded on 22 September 1989 with the aim of creating an international representative organisation of elite sports for athletes with an impairment. It has a democratic structure with democratically elected representatives. The Lillehammer 1994 Paralympic Winter Games were the first Paralympic Games under the governance of the IPC.
